Introduction

As an International Medical Graduate, there is always a need to separate you from other qualified residency candidates.  Everyone in which compete against will be ECFMG certified.  They will all have good letters of recommendation.  You need an edge.  There has to be something about yourself that will separate you from other candidates.  This Clinical Competency Assessment Program will give you that edge.

The greatest concern residency directors have about foreign trained physicians who wish begin residency is the FMG’s core competency level.  What are core competencies? Core competencies are those day in and day out clinical skills that a new intern has to know.  These skills include having a working knowledge of base clinical assessments from reading an EKG to admitting a patient into the hospital.  The components of the six week GMCG Clinical Competency Assessment Program will teach you the skills residency directors expect you to know.  These skills are taught in both a hands on clinical setting as well as in-classroom instruction. These are the skills you can highlight on your CV and personal statement that will separate you from your peers and give you a greater opportunity at residency.
